GELLI PLATE

Gel plate printing is the perfect introduction in to printmaking without the need for too many specialist tools or printing presses, all you need is your gel plate, a roller, acrylic paint and a bit of imagination which makes it an ideal skill to practice at home.

The course will be led by Mike Poczapsky who is an experienced gel plate enthusiast. It will be a hands on course where Mike will show you some of the fundamental techniques that will help you explore the versatility of gel plate printing, including creating textures, producing mono prints and also transferring images from magazines. By the end of the course you will have a number of prints to take home with you and hopefully a passion for printing.

SCREEN PRINTING

Saturday 13th / Sunday 14th September 2025

A practical, hands-on 2 day course as an introduction to screen printing. Also ideal as an introduction to Poole Printmaking’s screen printing equipment for members who have some prior experience. The course includes stencil making techniques such as paper and photographic stencils. You will be given a design brief so that you can prepare as much as possible before the course, to give you maximum time experiencing the printing process.

LETTER PRESS

The history of letter press dates back to its origins in the 15th Century. Come and make a statement with the vintage wood type at Poole Printmakers Studio. Using the fabulous studio Albion press, Letterpress printer Katherine Anteney will show you how to get the most out of this technique.

SAFE ETCHING

Sunday 26th October 2025

Tutor: Sue Smith

This one day course is all about making etchings using a solution of copper sulphate and salt. Because it is an alkali rather than an acid it is safer method than using the traditional nitric acid.

The day will be suitable for those who have not tried safe etching and for those who have some experience.

During the day you will be taken through the whole process from preparing a zinc plate, marking the image on it, mixing the solution of copper sulphate and salt, etching the plate and printing it. By the end of the day you will be able to make a successful print.
