A CO-OPERATIVE LED BY PRINTMAKERS FOR PRINTMAKERS
Poole Printmakers are a voluntary co-operative of printmakers founded in 1991 and based in Poole, Dorset. The group was established by a local artist and teacher, John Liddell, and a group of fellow experienced printmakers. Our aim is to promote traditional printmaking - through making original art, hosting exhibitions and engaging our community.
Our 50 plus membership includes those starting to learn printmaking, as well as established artists.
We welcome new members of all ages and levels of experience.
We have an open access print studio available to members with a wide range of presses and equipment to support a variety of printing techniques.
As well as the studio we offer a community of expertise in printmaking and the opportunity to exhibit and attend social events. We run courses for members and the public.
OUR HISTORY AND 'SECRET' WORKSHOP
Poole Printmakers was founded as a co-operative in 1991 by John Liddell, a renowned local printmaker/ teacher, and a group of enthusiastic local printmakers. The aim of Poole Printmakers is to promote traditional print making.
We are based at 5 Bowling Green Alley in old Poole Town in an historic building, which has had many uses since medieval times. Behind the wall and gate in Bowling Green Alley lies a beautiful, secluded, flag stoned courtyard, leading to the workshop. (Our members have keys to the courtyard and workshop)
Within the workshop the mixture of original architectural features, like repurposed pillars and beams is complemented by our old printing equipment, some of which dates back to the 1800’s. (Alongside our other modern presses)
While amazing prints are produced in the workshop and in members’ own homes and studios the co-operative has been exhibiting works for over 30 years at a range of venues through exhibitions and events. All members can exhibit - including complete beginners, artists with support needs, as well as established printmakers.
We also promote printmaking through Courses available to the public and members.
